Homework Wizard
This sponsored project was a collaboration with SAS and NC State. Homework Wizard is a digital platform for educators to track students' progress, identify learning gaps, and assign personalized homework. Using APIs to connect to the school’s existing curriculum and textbook databases, a large language model is utilized to generate custom questions, offer insights into student responses, and adapt to content-based learning patterns.
2024 | User Interface, User Experience
The Assignment.
My role was to design and implement key functionalities that would enable the platform to provide a comprehensive set of tools for educators. This involved creating a seamless user experience that allowed for easy access to gradebooks, curriculum resources, and personalized homework options. Additionally, I was responsible for incorporating data-driven insights and analytics, enabling educators to make informed decisions based on real-time student performance data.
Process
I designed the platform's interface to be intuitive and educator-centric, focusing on straightforward navigation and the ability to access essential functions quickly. Since the primary persona was a 3rd-grade teacher, I wanted to optimize the dashboard to be efficient and easy to navigate as fast as possible. I started doing competitive analysis, personas, wireframes, and user flows. Doing so gave me an idea of what areas were lacking and what could be implemented into the application.
Outcome
The final product was a walkthrough of a teacher and student navigating the interface. There were two different personas, and user flows. The main goal for students is to help them improve their knowledge and use real-time AI assistance to help them learn outside of the classroom. In addition, the teacher wants to quickly find students who need additional help using the Homework Wizard data.
Future Opportunities
If I keep moving forward with this application, some opportunities that could be expanded within the platform would be to add tests and quizzes through the student's homework and incorporate accommodations for students with learning disabilities.
